BAKAS, Norzagaray Bulacan

BAKAS literally means, marks-traces or footprints. BAKAS is situated or a portion of Angat River, a very interesting spot where the foot markings of the legendary Bernardo Carpio and his pets can be found. It is one of the attractions in Norzagaray Bulacan.

The markings are best viewed on top of the boulders but getting there is hard, first you must know how to swim. At noon time the water level starts to go up, the current is strong making it hard to swim near the huge stones.

About Bernardo Carpio - a story of  a man with superhuman strength have been passed from our ancestors to present generation, the legend says that in one of Bernardo Carpio's travel, he stopped and rested and left his 2-feet footprints on a mound of adobe stones. The markings are still there, because of this story the place was called BAKAS.

It was an unplanned visit, I just wanted to relax and enjoy nature's simplicity.
Bakas is just a few hours drive from Manila to Norzagaray. There's a way from Tungko, Fairview and from Bulacan going to Barrio Matictic, Norzagaray but I took the way from Sta Maria to Norzagaray.

Cottages are available at Php200.

The road going to BAKAS is rough but I saw portions of the it under construction. We took a tricycle and told the driver to bring us to BAKAS, fare was Php20 per person. We're five that includes two kids.

Commuting could be a little tricky but it's worth the effort when we arrive in the place. Enjoy fresh air, cold and clean water.

No other Amenities available except Cottages and Comfort Rooms made from Coconut leaves.

Snail and Clam

What other way to relax and spent your weekend is to be in a quite place, and take a deep breath with fresh air. It's a nice way to spent it with family, friends or just being ALONE.

BAKAS is located at Barrio Matictic, Norzagaray Bulacan.
Getting there:
From Bocaue Bulacan, take non-aircon (ordinary) buses going to Norzagaray. In Poblacion Norzagaray, take a tricycle and tell driver to bring you to BAKAS. Jeepney from Sta Maria Bulacan going to Norzagaray will also bring you to Poblacion.

Thanks Jenn! Yes, this is a nice place!According to the caretaker I met, there are plans of developing the area esp the road going there. If you go there, try going on top of the boulders and see the markings. :)

Thank you Ms. Jam! I also love this place I just wish they will develop this area like putting a hanging bridge going to the top of the boulder so everyone can see the markings of Bernardo Carpio bec it's hard going there esp if the current is strong. Overall I enjoyed the clean air, cold water and the simplicity of the place. :)
