Things I Learned at AMW Photography Makeup Workshop by Nikki Tiu

I was able to attend the AMW Workshop VII Photography makeup a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the most exciting makeup tutorials I've ever attended. I used to be a self-taught and would rely only to makeup tutorials on YouTube. That's when I became more interested in makeup and even changed my skin care routine. One of the things I often searched for is eyebrow tutorials. It was not easy until I stumble upon Nikki Tiu's eyebrow tutorial about two years ago.

Not because we've know each other for quite sometime. But really, I find her makeup tutorial easy to follow. It's not complicated especially for beginners like me. Since then I would follow some of her makeup tips.

Nikki Tiu is not only a famous beauty blogger, she's also a makeup artist. She happily imparts and shares her knowledge by providing a series of makeup workshop. I've been seeing her posts and some from the women in the blogging community so I thought of joining one of her makeup classes. I attended one of the AMW Workshop Series a couple of weeks ago. What's great about her workshops is that they are more focused, following a theme. Let say you want to learn everyday makeup look, bridal makeup but the one I attended was the Photography Makeup Workshop.

For fellow makeup enthusiasts, here are Things I Learned from the #AMWWorkshopSeries featuring Photography Makeup.

How to achieve a naturally-flawless look? Start with a clean skin. It is advisable to use the right makeup brushes too. AMW and her sponsors were so generous and gave us a bag full of makeup products. Assembly Line Ph provided us with 5 piece travel brush set. Charm Essentials gave us a kabuki brush.

Base makeup: She recommends using a clean, damp makeup blender. For this workshop, we used Cathy Doll's makeup blender. Apply the foundation 1st where it needs more coverage. We used Makeup Forever's Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. It's ultra-lightweight on the skin and long wearing. It also creates a naturally-flawless look even on spotlight. See the first photo above. Finished with loose powder to set the makeup for a natural luminous finish.

For oily skin, you can use a primer. I have a combination skin but never tried using a primer until last week. I purchased the All Day Lasting Primer from Althea.

Eyebrows: Products we used to create the perfect eyebrow are: Benefit pencil or K Palette Real Lasting Eyebrow to define the eyebrows. The Golden Rose Eyebrow powder fills the spot area.

Eye Makeup: When applying an eye shadow, apply it in a round stroke motion towards the nose. The shade you choose for the eyes shadow should be the color you will apply to the eye liner. We used
3S Pre-glued lashes applied before putting an eyeliner. I used Jordana Cosmetic's A Classic Color effects eye shadow and Kajal for the eyeliner.

Contouring: People with dark complexion can also apply a contour powder as well. The Complete Contouring Palette by Makeup World gives definition and dimension to our face. This palette includes highlighting and contouring shades.

Lipstick: It is best to use a lip pencil or lip liner to prevent from feathering or bleeding. For dry lips, apply lipstick in an up and down motion. Included in my makeup studio kit is the Nyx Lingerie lip color.

AMW workshop was extremely well-organized, the food was delicious. By the way, just in case you would want to join her upcoming workshops, make sure to arrive early. You'll be given a chance to choose which seat you'd want to occupy and not miss any part of it.

Special thanks to all the sponsors, those I haven't mentioned Kanebo, Essence and Catrice Cosmetics, Deborah Philippines, Flormar Philippines, Beauty and Minerals, Esfolio Philippines, Avelina Care for the body soap, Girlstuff for our beautiful nails and of course to Nikki Tiu, for having me in this Photography Makeup Workshop. She's a great makeup mentor, well-experienced makeup artist. No dull moments during the workshop.
