The Kaya Natin! Champions| Inspiring Stories of Good Governance and Leadership in the Philippines Volume 1

It was October 2010 when I attended a book launch, “Jesus Sets Us Free” by Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas. It’s a compilation of  homilies by Father Soc and it aims to enlighten us through reflection and deep appreciation for prayer as tool for peace. I already finished reading the book and honestly, I still keep coming back and find time to read it all over again. I plan to create a blog post, to share how it inspires me and taught me the power of deep prayer.

Recently, I attended another book launch, a story of Champions of Good Governance and Leadership. Though, I still need to read it from cover to cover to be able to give my insights but here’s an overview of the book Kaya Natin! Volume 1.

The Kaya Natin! Champions: Inspiring Stories of Good Governance and Leadership in the Philippines Volume 1 is a compilation of ten stories of good governance, local and national government officials who embodied the values of effective and empowering leadership with integrity. Each chapter tells the story of one individual, from their background to their political career and their leadership lessons. These former and incumbent officials are part of the roster of Champions of Good Governance of the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership.

The editors Shylynne Castillo, 20 years old is a recent graduate of the Manila Times School of Journalism and Karla Angelica Pastores, 24 yrs old a graduate of B.S. Psychology degree from Ateneo de Manila University. Most of the contributors are either college students or young professionals, between the ages of 19-29, with varying backgrounds but a common love for writing. They are neither volunteers of Kaya Natin nor employees, but most of them attended the movement’s Good Governance Writing Workshop where they were introduced to the Champions and given training on feature writing.
