#SimpleToShare Tips on Donating Clothes

Ever felt that wonderful, awesome, grate feeling when you were able to reach out and help others? I've read a lot of "to do" list on how to live a meaningful life. One of the secrets is by learning to give and sharing your blessings (even if it's small) to others.

Let's admit, giving away something that's valuable for us isn't easy. I used to resist and ignore when I was asked to give away personal favorites.  I like collecting items. I have a collection of recipe flyers, cook books, ref magnets, travel magazines and brochures, Starbucks tumblers even old clothes. I always think someday my siblings, my nephews and niece would use them. I did not realize it is in sharing that you'll find joy in your heart.

A couple of years ago I started donating cash just watching a program with music, prayer and ministry. When typhoon Ondoy hit Metro Manila I learned to donate other things aside from money. There's clothing, food, soap, small things that could be of little help to the victims. Today, I'm find more happiness with my husband helping me donate pre-loved clothes every time there's a need.

Recently, typhoon Mario devastated some areas in Metro Manila and other provinces. Immediately, our church organized a donation drive. Again, we wanted to help. I also asked my siblings if they have pre-loved clothes to share. We got a positive response and they thought of giving away baby clothes.

The Electrolux Save & Share Blog Series is part of the Electrolux Delightful-E simple campaign which aims to help moms save not just money but also their precious time by making their everyday tasks delightfully simple and easy.  It is a web series hosted by ten (10)  selected entertainment and lifestyle bloggers in the country where they get to ask Electrolux brand ambassadors Cheska Garcia Kramer, Chef Rosebud Benitez, Chef Bruce Lim and Mommy Mundo’s Janice Villanueva about creative yet effective ways to save household expenses and sharing blessings to others. We were lucky to interview the brand ambassadors. On our recent blog, I shared #SimpleToSave laundry tips. Today, let's see what our brand ambassadors think about donating pre-loved clothes. #SimpleToShare Tips on Donating Clothes
I asked Chef Rosebud what she thinks of common obstacles in donating clothes. She said, we should consider the type of clothes to give. For example, we shouldn't give away old gowns, trench coats, heavy sweaters just so we can remove them from our cabinets because obviously, they're not appropriate for other people to wear daily.

Mommy Cheska shared the "do's" and "don'ts" of donating. "You can set up a garage sale for party clothes and donate the money. For people who have emotional attachment to the things they give, this could be a better way to detach yourself from that emotional attachment to your things", she added.

Chef Rosebud's tells us the importance of segregating:
  • Segregating is important so that it'll be easier to give it to people we'll be donating to.

Cheska's recommendation when segregating:
  • Not everything in your closet can be donated. So for one, try to find out what are the things that are needed.
  • Set aside one kit or like clothes for infants.
  • Know first know what they need and then from there, you can segregate what you can give from your closet.
Yours truly list down few tips on donating clothes:

  • Give what your heart tells you. Give what you're comfortable to give.
  • Be an informed giver. A wise giver knows which charitable institution is worth giving. Ask questions when you are asked to give.
  • Know what people need
  • Donate clothes that are not too old and dirty.
  • You can also share your time and effort by becoming a volunteer.
  • You don't have to wait to be asked. You can make a difference by donating even small things that you don't use.
