Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th Birthday Celebration

In commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, there are numerous activities presented at different locations nationwide.

Sunday, June 19 the biggest and most anticipating celebration held at Luneta Park and Calamba, Laguna. In spite of the bad weather thousands of people gathered in Luneta Park to give honor to our dear Dr. Jose Rizal. After the flag raising, they offered flowers to his monument. Activities like the DepEd Fun Run "Takbo ni Pepe", Musikultura  and Cinema in open air at night, just to mention a few. That day was packed with a lot of activities when I am just in front of my television watching live telecast. After hearing mass, I decided to go to SM North EDSA to check out some review materials I need and then I just remember that this shopping mall will also hold a History Trivia in celebration of Rizal’s 150th birthday.

SM North EDSA launched the History Trivia about Dr. Jose Rizal. Located at the 3rd floor, The Block and will run from June 19 to June 30, 2011. Get to know interesting facts and historical trivia on our national hero.

The Rizal Family, Chronology of events happened in Rizal’s life, favorite food and album – included in the trivia.

I learned that Rizal’s favorite food are Pancit, Mangoes and Lanzones. His favorite breakfast is hot chocolate, a cup of rice and sardinas secas (Tuyo). His lunch, ayungin (silver perch). In Dapitan, he usually had three type of viands – the first was Pinoy food like Sinigang or Paksiw, the second, Spanish and the third was something he described as “mestizo”.  He didn’t drink wine and preferred his water with ice.

Rizal was a Gym buff! He turned to weight-lifting to amp up his physique. His waist has 12 inches difference from his chest. His waist measured 25-26 inches and chest was 37 inches.
