Brown Rice Benefits and Sample Recipes

Brown Rice is known for its many health benefits. The unpolished fiber in brown rice helps improve cholesterol and sugar levels. Brown rice is also considered a "low glycemic" index food which means once digested it slowly released energy thus keeping blood sugar level stable.

Brown Rice Benefits and Sample Recipe

The first time I tried cooking brown rice, hubby did not liked it because it was tough. I watch videos and read articles how to cook brown rice until I finally discovered the right way.

Harvester's Brown Rice is one of my favorite rice brands. I was looking for dinorado rice when I saw their brown variant and thought of trying it.

Harvester's, Jordan Farms and FarmBoy are core products under Sunny Wood Rice. The company actively promotes local production and marketing of native rice.

Harvester's Brown Rice is available in whole grain, unpolished rich rice which means it does not undergo any process. Unpolished rice is very rich and nutritious, packed with vitamins and minerals that are good for the body and heart.

Sample Recipe using Brown Rice

Champorado Ingredients:
1. 1 cup Harvester's Brown Rice in 3-4 cups of water.
2. Tablea Tsokolate or any kind of chocolate powder.
3. Cow's milk or coconut milk

How to Cook Champorado

You can use the rice cooker to cook champorado but I prefer using the traditional casserole. Wash the brown rice and add 4 cups of water. Bring to boil then add Tablea Chocolate. Served hot with milk or coconut milk for a richer champorado.

Harvester's Brown Rice smells great too so I even tried making champorado (chocolate porridge) for breakfast. The nutty flavor in Harvester's Brown Rice makes champorado more flavourful. Try it at home and serve with kakang gata (fresh coconut milk).

How to Cook Sunny Wood Brown and other colored rice:

1. Wash brown rice.
2. Rice and water ratio:

  •    Brown Rice: 2 cups water + 1 cup brown rice
  •    Multi-Grain: 2 cups water + 1 cup brown rice
  •    Black Rice: 2 1/2 cups water + 1 cup brown rice
  •    Red Rice: 2 1/2 cups water + 1 cup water

3. Soak for 30 minutes
4. Cook in low heat for 45 minutes or in a rice cooker.

Of course, brown rice are best served for lunch and dinner. Here's a healthy meal served with Harvester's Brown Rice, sauteed edamame beans and pork stew.

It has string beans, tomatoes, onions, tuna chunks or you can use chicken (breast part and cut into pieces), served with sliced boiled egg and drizzled with homemade honey-lemon vinaigrette. Yum! Not only that it taste good, it's also healthy and nutritious.
