Dinner at Rustique Kitchen By Chef Bruce Lim

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to try a newly opened restaurant along Arnaiz Ave in Makati. Rustique Kitchen is owned by couple, Tony Boy Cojuangco and Gretchen Barretto, with Chef Bruce Lim.

Upon entering, I felt the warm and cozy atmosphere. Spacious, recommended for intimate dinner or lunch dates sipping a glass of wine. I love the classic Spanish interior design and the dim lights inside the restaurant providing a romantic retreat from the busy Makati City.

Rustique Kitchen serves house cocktails and mocktails. They have a wide range of wines.

There's an open kitchen where you can see how they meticulously prepare your food.

I would have loved to meet one of the owners, Gretchen Barretto but it's okay our dinner was served by one of the country's well-known chef, Bruce Lim.

Bruschetta with foie gras
For starter, we had an assortment of French breads and yummy spreads. The one with a toffee nut flavor was my favourite. Came next were mouth-watering Bruschetta with foie gras and Lapu Lapu Ceviche.

Surprisingly, the tortang talong was very good. The slices of salted egg on top added more flavor.

A Spanish dish, Lengua Pastel was my favorite dish that evening. It has a perfectly warm, brownish pie crust on top and inside, soft, creamy and tasty cream sauce with all other ingredients including lengua.

Look at the photo and see a lot of ingredients! I'm not really a fan of lengua but this one was so good I can eat it all by myself. The sauce was rich, I'm glad it doesn't look like a soup that other restaurants make. This Lengua Pastel goes well with any of the assorted French breads.

Rustique Kitchen call it the Fish Market, simply because it's beautifully presented with dry fish and Lapu-Lapu baked in lemongrass marinara with French beans on the side.

Served for the king, Grilled Rib Eye Steak made of USDA beef rib eye made more delicious with crunchy French beans and asparagus, fried onions, grated cheese, served with a tangy cream sauce and potato on the side.

If the grilled rib eye steak is for the king, well, this pretty Baked Salmon is best for the queen like me. You would never go wrong with baked salmon.

Our wonderful dinner capped with a fabulous warm buko pie. I really like it! Hey, this one is certainly not your ordinary buko pie. It's Chef Bruce and Rustique Kitchen's Signature Buko pie, with caramelized sugar on top and made more delicious because of the buko juice. Creaminess and sweetness in every scoop.

The experience reminded me of good old times - from food to its interior. The food in Rustique Kitchen is not cheap but you get the most of your money. An order can be shared by two or three, depending on your appetite.

I recommend eating at Rustique. They are open for lunch and dinner. So, the next time you think you would probably stuck in traffic, why not spend a lovely night over good food with your loved ones.
